  • May – Agreement reorganizing the Byzantine Empire's affairs is finalized with Anna of Savoy's son John V Palaiologos marrying John VI Kantakouzenos' 15-year-old daughter Helena.
  • May – Genoese ships after fleeing the Black Death plague in Kaffa stop in Constantinople - causing contamination of the city.
  • 20 May – Roman commoner, Cola di Rienzo, declares himself Emperor of Rome in response to years of baronic power-struggles.
  • 2 August – The Islamic Bahmani Kingdom is established on the Indian subcontinent.
  • September – The English win the city of Calais in the Hundred Years' War.
